Our passion is helping you get rid of your pain and lead an optimized life.
You know you’re in the right spot when your life experiences, pains, and setbacks serve to teach you and put you on a path to help others who have similar problems.
At Smitherman Naturopathic, that is our story.
Primary physician Dr. Justin Smitherman has walked in the shoes of many of his patients, who suffer from various pain and low testosterone.
From an athlete in pain to two medical degrees and a desire to help others
As an active college athlete at Washington State University (Go Cougs!), Dr. Smitherman began suffering from chronic low back pain. Visits to several specialists did nothing to help – that is, until he got an adjustment from a chiropractor. Chiropractic adjustments healed his back pain, which profoundly improved his life and led him on his path to help others similarly.
Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree from WSU, he enrolled in the University of Western States, where he completed his four-year doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine as well as a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Functional Medicine. The first advent of Dr. Smitherman was born.
With a thirst for knowledge and a love of natural medicine, Dr. Smitherman packed up his car and drove from Portland, Oregon to Chicago, Illinois, to complete another 4-year doctorate to become a Naturopathic Physician.
The years of training as a chiropractor and Naturopathic Physician gives Dr. Smitherman a unique set of skills and talent for helping patients with pain.
Along the way, Dr. Smitherman developed a love for injection therapies as he realized how effective, yet under-used they are in treating chronic pain. He has attended a considerable number of injection trainings and performs these injections as a primary procedure to help patients improve their lives.
Later on in his career, Dr. Smitherman was diagnosed with low testosterone by his colleague Dr. James Wang who is a testosterone replacement specialist in San Diego, California. When Dr. Smitherman began to supplement his testosterone levels, he could not believe the wide-reaching impact it has on him both physically and mentally. He has noticed improvements in physical strength, stamina, recovery, sleep, and, most notably, an improved mood. The improved mood and confidence are what Dr. Smitherman is most thankful for with his testosterone replacement.
Seeing the difference testosterone replacement made in his own life caused him to offer that as a service for his patients.
